Amsler Grid Test
What is the Amsler Grid?
The Amsler Grid is a simple visual test used to detect problems with your central vision, particularly conditions affecting the macula (the center of your retina).
How to use this test:
- Sit comfortably about 12-15 inches from the screen
- If you wear reading glasses, put them on
- Cover one eye completely with your hand
- Look directly at the center dot with your uncovered eye
- While focusing on the center dot, notice if:
- Any lines appear wavy, bent, or distorted
- Any areas appear blurred or dark
- Any squares appear different in size
- Repeat the test with your other eye
Important: This test is not a substitute for professional eye care. If you notice any distortions, consult an eye care professional immediately.
