Amsler Grid Test

What is the Amsler Grid?

The Amsler Grid is a simple visual test used to detect problems with your central vision, particularly conditions affecting the macula (the center of your retina).

How to use this test:

  1. Sit comfortably about 12-15 inches from the screen
  2. If you wear reading glasses, put them on
  3. Cover one eye completely with your hand
  4. Look directly at the center dot with your uncovered eye
  5. While focusing on the center dot, notice if:
    • Any lines appear wavy, bent, or distorted
    • Any areas appear blurred or dark
    • Any squares appear different in size
  6. Repeat the test with your other eye

Important: This test is not a substitute for professional eye care. If you notice any distortions, consult an eye care professional immediately.
