Microclear SKY

Abstract
The SKY Full-Eye Imaging Platform by Microclear Medical is a cutting-edge ophthalmic diagnostic system that combines confocal laser scanning technology (CSLO) with Swept-Source OCT (SS-OCT) to provide comprehensive, high-resolution imaging of the entire eye, from the retina to the anterior segment.
Imaging Specifications
OCT Technology
The SKY platform uses Swept-Source OCT (SS-OCT) technology and supports simultaneous SS-OCT and fundus imaging in a single acquisition.
Imaging Modalities (11+)
The SKY integrates over 11 imaging modalities in a single platform:
- SS-OCT and OCT-A (angiography)
- Anterior Segment OCT
- Ultra-widefield color fundus imaging (confocal SLO, RGB)
- Blue-wavelength ultra-widefield autofluorescence
- Green-wavelength ultra-widefield autofluorescence
- Red-Free (IR), Red-Free (blue), Red-Free (green)
- IR ultra-widefield
- Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) — ultra-widefield
- Indocyanine Green Angiography (ICGA) — ultra-widefield
OCT Scan Depth & Width
In a single acquisition, the system delivers ultra-widefield color images alongside ultra-wide SS-OCT scans of 28 mm width and ultra-deep imaging of 9 mm in depth.
Imaging Field of View
The system features optical zoom technology allowing the field of view to be changed in a single acquisition across 135°, 90°, 45°, or 8° without changing lenses and while maintaining the same retinal resolution.
Laser Channels
The SKY platform integrates five laser channels, supporting multiple synchronous imaging modes for simultaneous multimodal capture.
Fundus Camera Resolution
The integrated ultra-widefield laser confocal imaging system achieves a resolution of 10 µm, enabling detection of subtle retinal changes, assessment of retinal tear risks, and identification of deep microaneurysms in diabetic retinopathy.
⚙️ Technical / System Specifications
Imaging Architecture
The SKY combines confocal SLO (CSLO) with SS-OCT in a unified platform — integrating the capabilities of an ultra-widefield RGB color imaging system, a confocal laser angiograph, dual autofluorescence channels, and ultra-wide/ultra-deep anterior and posterior tomographic imaging.
AI Integration
The system combines traditional image processing with AI-based algorithms to improve image recognition and analysis efficiency, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and providing data resources for ophthalmic research — particularly for photoreceptor blood flow and retinal disease progression studies.
Patient Comfort
The SKY is a non-mydriatic system (no pupil dilation required), reducing patient discomfort during examination.
Regulatory Approvals
The SKY Full-Eye Imaging Platform has received CE-MDR certification (European conformity), and Microclear Medical's products hold certifications including China NMPA, US FDA, and EU CE.
Clinical Deployment
SKY is deployed in over 300 hospitals in China, including top-tier institutions such as Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center and Peking Union Medical College Hospital, with export to more than 30 countries and regions worldwide.
⚠️ Limitations of Available Data
Microclear has not published a full public datasheet with numerical parameters such as:
- Exact A-scan speed (kHz)
- Precise SS-OCT wavelength (likely ~1050 nm, typical for posterior SS-OCT)
- Sensitivity and sensitivity roll-off values
- Lateral resolution (µm)
- System dimensions and weight
